Remember Sam Walton? He was our 2016 winner of MirrorSphere Future Tech Star.
Sam, a 16 year old student and Air Cadet from Oxfordshire, designed a system which allows cadets to work together using flight simulators.
He was chosen to be our MirrorSphere Future Tech Star for 2016 from hundreds of entrants who were eventually whittled down to just five finalists. The aim of MirrorSphere Future Tech Star was to find teenagers in Oxfordshire with a talent and passion for technology and we were overwhelmed by the response.
Since winning the award, Sam has gone on to do great things (with a little help from the technology bundle we supplied as a prize), including helping with a community project in Ecuador as part of a once in a lifetime school trip with World Challenge.
World Challenge was formed in 1987 by former army Captain Charles Rigby, who from his own experience leading soldiers in the Himalayas came to the realisation that people learn more effectively through practical experiences. World Challenge expeditions are designed to help students develop important life skills.
Sam put together a truly awe inspiring video of his 2016 World Challenge in Ecuador – which you can view here.
Now studying biology, physics, computing and maths at Wheatley Park Sixth Form in Oxford, Sam plans to pursue a career as an RAF aircraft engineer. We’re sure he’ll go on to fulfil all his ambitions!
